Domesticated: Glazed Steak Rolls

I love to cook! Granted its a hobby of mine that admittedly gets put on the back burner when my schedule gets busy, but whenever I get some free time I like to brush up on my skills.

Today, I was craving steak decided to try a brand new recipe! Behold my Glazed Steak Rolls! I came across this recipe on Pinterest, where else, and adjusted it to fit my own personal taste!

Below you will find a step by step instructions on how I made them! Enjoy!

 (1 1/2 – 2 lb skirt steak/ 8-10 thin sliced sirloin
Salt & Pepper (according to taste)
3 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
A1 Steak Sauce
 1 tbsp olive oil

For the Veggie filling
1 carrot
1 bell pepper
zucchini (depending on size)
1/2 white onions
1 tsp italian herb seasoning

Start by preparing the steak. I cut the meat into strips approximately 3 inches wide and used a meat hammer to help thin them out. I seasoned each piece generously with salt and pepper before adding the meat to a marinade of A1 Sauce and Worcestershire Sauce. I suggest letting them sit for at least 30 minutes.

While you're waiting on the steak, you can prep the filling. Chop up the carrots, onions, zucchini, and red pepper. Try and get them as thin as possible so that they will fit when you assemble the rolls.

Remove the steak from its marinade and lay a variety of vegetables in the center. Roll the steak over the filling and secure each end with a toothpick. Repeat with each roll.

Heat a large skillet on medium heat. Add a touch of olive oil and coat the bottom of the pan. When hot, add the rolls seam side down to the pan and fry for a few minutes. Turn roll and cook it on all sides until the steak reaches your desired done-ness.

Remove toothpick and plate the rolls! Enjoy!

March 2014 Blog of the Month

Girl Behind the Blog: Krista Robertson

Meet Krista! This twenty something University of Kentucky graduate is a social media junkie by day at MLB, and a sassy blogger by night! Covering the Bases welcomes readers with a daily term, phrase, or saying that relates to baseball and each post is broken down into baseball positions for category purposes! If you happen to be a bit new to baseball terminology fear not! Krista makes these concepts super easy to understand and each is linked directly to her daily content!

I am elated to have her blog Covering the Bases as my first ever Blog of the Month! The idea behind this series is to showcase bloggers that I personally follow on a regular basis! Their content and style are things to be admired and I hope you enjoy learning about them as well. You will find my interview with Krista below!

Q: Where are you from and where do you live now?
Always a hard question to answer—I’m from all over. Born in CA, raised in Dallas, high school in Chicago, school in Kentucky and now I live in New York City.

Q: What was the inspiration behind Covering the Bases? And how long have you been blogging?
I wanted to share my two passions in life: baseball and fashion. The worlds are VERY different and I wanted some place where they were able to come together. I’ve been blogging on this blog for 4 months now. Blogging overall for almost 2 years.

Q: Your content is always unique and fresh; where do you find the inspiration for your blog posts?
The inspiration for my blog posts always come from what I decided to wear that day. On top of that I spend more than enough time online shopping, looking on pinterest, reading other blogs—all of those things can create inspiration.

Q: Since Covering The Bases is a marriage of your love for fashion and baseball, how would you describe your style?
My style is always changing. Every day is different, but it’s always a classic look.

Q: What advice do you have for girls out there that interested in revamping their wardrobe for spring?
To spend a little more money and buy staple pieces. They’re worth the investment!

Q: What’s your favorite accessory?
My pearl earrings—never leave home without them.

Q: Who are some of your favorite bloggers?
I’m a total fan girl of Gal Meets Glam. And I love reading my friends blogs—Southern Curls and Pearls, Summer Wind, Katie’s Bliss… the list goes on!

Q: What’s been your most rewarding moment as a blogger?
Being able to connect with so many other bloggers and people--- some of my best friends are people I’ve met through the blog.

Q: What is your ultimate goal for Covering The Bases?
My ultimate goal is to keep it going and have it evolve as I do over the years.

Coffee Talk: Friends That Turn Into Family

"maybe our girlfriends are our soul-mates and guys are just people to have fun with..."

I don't know about the rest of you, but I live and breathe for Sex and the City. Over the years, I have fallen in love with Charlotte, Samantha, Carrie and Miranda and enjoyed traveling with them and the beautiful places life took them (even though I must admit most of my travel was done some years after the show rapped; we didn't have HBO in my house growing up-the struggle).

I remember how much I use to crave the deep levels of friendship that the 4 of them were able to create. A friendship that lasted through breakups and hook-ups (the good, the bad, and the Big), babies, struggles, divorce; those New Yorker's went through it all. But their love for each other never wavered.

Now that I'm older, I can honestly say I have a bit of that "Sex and the City" friendship with my close circle of friends. We're all very different, but it works, and I've become a better version of myself by having them in my life. Because of this bond, I hate it when we fight or go without speaking. I'm sure you all can relate. Nothing sucks more than fighting with your best friend....but when you make up, it's like nothing ever happened. And that's the beauty of true friendship.

It is in this spirit that I pose today's coffee talk question; do you have those special friends that have slowly turned into family? When did you meet? What do you do when you fight? I wanna know! I think that too often we spend too much time tearing down other women but today I want to celebrate your Charlotte's and Samantha's. In fact, I think I can sum this up in one of my favorite Carrie quotes and it goes a little something like this:

"The most important thing in life is your family. There are days you love them, and others you don't, but at the end of the day they're the people you always come home to. Sometimes it's the family you're born into...and sometimes, it's the one you create for yourself!

Happy hump day ya'll!

Last night I hosted an event called "Naked Juice" for my sororities Total Body Takeover Week; continuing the "eat healthy/be fit" motif that most of us were on full throttle before spring break. Our hope, was to inspire people to continue that strive for good health. To help us inspire people to do this, we invited guests from the community to come out and speak about healthy eating and their own personal experiences with weight loss.

One of our guests was Nick from The Weekly Juicery here in Lexington. This juice bar, tucked away off Old Vine Street, creates fresh, all natural, cold pressed juices and specialty smoothies.

Created about a year ago by owner Kimmye Bohannon and her business partner Elizabeth Beal, the juicery buys all local products and hopes to encourage their consumers to try something new and entice their taste buds with some of their juices and meals.

I personally visited the store about two weeks ago and spoke with Caroline, who was so sweet and helpful throughout my questions and inquiries. I'd never tried "juicing" before, so the concept itself was completely foreign to me, but she talked me through the process and even let me try out a few samples!

The juice I liked is the one shown both above and below, The Felon Melon

All the products are made fresh daily and are kept in a fridge! The all glass bottles are trendy and convenient for juicing on the go!

The Weekly Juicery also sells t-shirs and additional products to help promote their brand!

The Weekly Juicery also creates salads and wraps like the one pictured below. The lettuce wrap that I tried was delicious; undeniably fresher than a lot of the things that I typically consume, so it was a nice change!

If you're in the Lexington area, feel free to stop by The Weekly Juicery at 436 Old Vine Street or check them out on Facebook! They also have an Instagram page @theweeklyjuicery!

I loved learning about this company and hope to produce an interview with them soon!

Soxxy To Me

Happy Monday beautiful people! Today I am absolutely thrilled to announce my first sponsorship here on Gorgeous Chaos! Allow me to introduce Soxxy Air. Founded by go-getter Sarah Stabile in 2011, Soxxy is the only functional and fashionable compression sock that has some amazing health benefits!

Not only will these stylish socks increase circulation, reduce swelling, muscle soreness, and DVT (deep vein thrombosis), but now purchasing a pair gives you the opportunity to give back. Soxxy Air has partnered with five special charities to create sock designs that support more than just the legs you walk with! $8 from every sale will be donated to the charity linked with the sock you purchased! The charities participating are Why Hunger, the Bob Woodruff Foundation, the Kristen Ann Carr Fund, Jessie Lewis Choose Love, and the Michael Stabile Memorial Scholarship Fund.

Outside of Soxxy's charitable relationships, the brand boasts ankle socks, thigh highs, leggings and many other options that are a far cry from your traditional "boring" socks. Being a very festive person myself, I instantly fell in love with collection. Below are a few of my favorites!

This ankle length stripped stunner is called the Jana. The pinot and silver mini-stripe is just one of the many color options offered in this style! For more ankle socks click here.

I love this particular thigh high called the Katie. The dark green color is perfect for the change of seasons and Katie is not like your typical tall sock! These are made of merino wool, making them extra soft! The rest of the thigh high collection can be accessed here.

These compression socks are called Nighthawk, and appropriately so! These give the maximum support and are perfect for travel; peep the airplane logo! Soxxy's full list of compression socks can be found here.

One of the biggest secrets to Soxxy's success has got to be the XO Grip designed into each pair! This patented technique was invented by Sarah to help reduce that irritating sock slippage I know we all

It's pretty safe to say that I am smitten with this brand and you should be too! In honor of this post and the launch of the charitable socks, avaliable beginning in April, Soxxy is giving all of you Gorgeous Chaos readers 20% offusing the code: SoxxyAirs

For more information on the charity campaign visit Soxxy Air's Indiegogo page here and be sure to watch the video on the project which can be found here

Soxxy's webpage provides information on the creator as well as directions on how to order from the collections.

Stay tuned for a future post on my review of the socks! Have a great day ya'll!!

All Cats Everything: Game Day Fashion

Basketball is religion in the bluegrass. And now that March is in full swing, the big blue nation is determined to cheer our wildcats to another NCAA victory (a girl can dream).

Therefore, in honor of Kentucky's game tonight against Kansas State, I have put together a few fashion pieces to help get you game day ready! Whether you're watching from the comfort of your own home, out with your friends in a bar, or relaxing on a white sandy beach; I've got something for you! I hope you enjoy!

Since it's my last day in Miami, I wanted to include this beautiful cobalt blue bikini by Monday Swimwear in my BBN fashion list! The piece itself is called the "Tulum", and is described as the perfect bikini to accentuate every curve.

The Tuluk ties at both the neck and back and offers easy coverage adjustments and rushing along the cups for an extra touch of sexy. The matching bottoms offer minimal coverage.

My second game day fashion item comes from Victoria's Secret.  This University of Kentucky Varsity Crew is perfect for lounging around and having a chill night in. The longer tunic is perfect for layering underneath leggings or shorts. The PINK Collegiate collection offers several other Kentucky style options that are updated each season. Check out the Choose Your School  webpage to see what merchandise they have for your university!

The next two pieces come from one of my favorite boutiques Francesca's. The first is the Martinique Jeweled Statement Necklace, a stunning combination of cobalt blue stones set in a gold, woven chain. The claw clasp at the top seals the deal. And at 15.5 inches long, it works great with any deep v neckline.

Next is a Harper Shimmer Pleated Skirt worn by a fellow blogger over at Fabulous Perks. I love this skirt because it is a stunning deep blue and offers creative versatility when it comes to styling. The high waist will also accentuate your waist as the rest of the skirt flows delicately away from your hips. I chose this particular image because it captures the true beauty and sparkle in the piece! Photo credits go directly to Fabulous Perks

My favorite fragrance for the past year is Blue by Ralph Lauren and because of it's name and color it deserves a place on this list. Blue lingers longer than most perfumes I've tried, it offers a combination of popular flowers like Lotus, Gardenia, Pink Peony, and is the perfect compliment to any outfit! Check major retailers like Dillard's and Macy's for pricing information.

Planet Sushi

Tonight my girlfriends and I enjoyed a much needed sushi meal at Miami's
Planet Sushi. The decor was modern and clean, and there were video monitors along each wall so that guests could see their meals being prepared by the chef's at the sushi bar. Planet Sushi serves a wide variety of Japanese cuisine from sushi, sashimi and creative foods including several specialty rolls; plenty of options to wet any appetite!

Planet Sushi started back in 1998 by french entrepreneur Siben N'Ser, but some sixteen years later, the company has expanded to locations in France, Spain, Marocco, and many more, making it a premier eatery and a must visit if you're ever in Miami!

Together the 4 of us ordered a total of 7 roles, and as sushi connoisseur, I can honestly say that each was absolutely perfect. Enjoy the photo gallery of my dinner at Planet Sushi!
