Blogger Break {changes are coming}

Hey ya'll! Happy Tuesday! I just wanted to make this announcement because I didn't want to be MIA for an extended period of time without an explanation.

I am taking a blogger break! The purpose of this mini vacay from blogging is to 1. curate more content for you guys so I'm not constantly feeling behind and 2. because My Gorgeous Chaos is getting completely redesigned!!

The inspiration for these changes came when one day I discovered my same blog template/layout on another bloggers site. Now, since I bought this template off Etsy, this revelation shouldn't have surprised me, but it did. I realized then that I wanted something completely and uniquely my own. And when I found my web designer Whitney I knew this was the time to invest in the dreams this little blog has inspired.

Having said that I am so excited and  I can't wait to share all the beautiful ideas I have for MGC. Plus Whit's designs are AMAZING so I can't wait to share that with ya'll as well.

In the mean time head over to Heart and Arrow (that's Whitney's design boutique) and check her out! Also my Pinterest Branding board has a lot of pictures that have inspired this new design ;]

See ya'll in August!

Yes folks, for the next 24 hours I am a walking Taylor Swift song because this is my twenty-second summer.

And I know everyone says this, but I feel like this is going to be a great year.

Natural Hair Update: Product Overload

This marks my first full week with my natural hair and it has already been a very interesting journey! I surprisingly haven't missed my long hair that much. Granted, there are moments that I feel like a boy with boobs, but that phases in and out....I am mainly just amazed with my curl pattern and individual texture, which I am already falling in love with.

I've also become obsessed with YouTube's natural hair guru's and researching all the amazing products available! And there are a TON of products available ya'll. Its almost overwhelming because I still don't know what I'm doing, but luckily I have amazing people around me who have made the transition as well, so I'm not going in this totally blind.

Having said that I have already started a "collection" of products that I am in love with. Check them out below:

1. Kinky-Curly: Knot Today Leave In Conditioner
2. Trader Joe's Tea Tree Triangle Shampoo and Conditioner
3. Shea Moisture Deep Treatment Masque
4. As I Am Coconut Co-Wash
5. Jamaican Black Caster Oil
6. ECO Gel
7. Shea Moisture Curl Enhancing Smoothie

The Tea Tree Shampoo and Conditioner are both from Trader Joe's but everything else can be found at Sally's or Target.

So that's my product overload thus far! I think the biggest thing for me is learning what my hair likes and what it responds too. Another thing that has become very important to me since making this life change is using all natural products. No sulfates. No parabens. Nothing. This "care" is a lot more than what I was use to with both weave and chemically processed hair so I like trying out new things and I would love to hear what some of my natural followers are using!

What are some of your favorite hair care products? What methods have you found the most affective? Who are your favorite natural hair YouTuber's?

Happy Monday!

I love discovering local restaurants and this week I stumbled upon Alfalfa, an adorable spot tucked in the heart of downtown Lexington.

Founded in 1973, this one-of-a-kind eatery prides itself in serving "food that people crave" by using all local ingredients. Everything from the flowers in the vases, to the eggs in your breakfast omelet are locally cultivated. In fact, the list of all of Alfalfa's suppliers can be found HERE.

This dedication to providing the best food possible is evident when you sink your teeth into your meal! A trip to Alfalfa will NOT leave you disappointed. Pinky promise.

Chalk boards are featured around the restaurant showcasing the specials of the day!

I had the turkey, bacon, avocado and it was amazing. Served hot with a side of the Greek cucumber salad.

Scarves For Summer

Scarves have always been a winter staple for me. I actually have a scarf box complete with 24 different variations of the accessory. But as summer kicks into full swing, I can't wait to start incorporating scarves into my summer wardrobe.

Coincidentally, one of my favorite little boutiques Francesca's is having a sale on all regular price scarves for a limited time so I felt it was only right to share this deal with ya'll and reveal some of my favorites from their summer collection.

Francesca's has great variety for this time of year so be sure to check your local store or head over to the online shop to see what fits your taste (I personally like bright colors and fringe detailing). Whatever your style, I have included the direct link to this sale HERE. The store also has BOGO going on for all full priced clothing as well.

Have a great Tuesday and happy shopping.

Coffee Talk: The Big Chop

Well guys, this weekend I did something I NEVER thought I would do. I chopped my hair off; step one in my journey to "go natural."

For those of you who don't know, "going natural" is a phrase that describes letting your relaxed or permed hair grow out so you can enjoy your natural texture. For some people, going natural involves transitioning and others simply chop off all their relaxed hair, leaving behind their natural curls.

This decision has honestly been a long time coming, but until recently I couldn't bring myself to just let go it. Stress and a few bad relaxers had left my hair weak and unhealthy but I was abnormally attached. I was, and had been for a long time, convinced that long hair equaled beauty. This mantra is something I think all African American girls, hell girls in general, feel at least once in their lifetime. Blame society, magazines, even the voices in our own heads; but this stigma is one of the main reasons I was afraid to cut off all my hair for a very long time. Maybe I wouldn't be beautiful anymore.

And I wish I could tell you that something monumental happened, shifting my focus, but nothing did. I guess I just got over it. Summer is the season of change so maybe I was just ready to start fresh and learn what my hair really looks like. And I don't regret my decision to do so.

Now that doesn't mean that I'll never get extensions or weave again. I probably will. I love long hair on me *insert hair flip*, but I no longer feel like I need it to feel attractive.

And with that the journey begins! For all of my natural followers I would LOVE to hear about your experiences! What made you decide to go natural? What products do you use? As I get more comfortable with my hair, I will be doing posts on different products and techniques that I like so be sure to look out for those.

Happy Monday!
