Be Witched

Happy Halloween my festive friends! I hope that you will be spending this day celebrating from dawn until dusk. I, on the other hand, will be spending much of this day at work. Cue dramatic facial expression. But don't you worry, I will be headed out as soon as I get off!

If I'm being honest, I wasn't much of a Halloween person growing up for 2 reasons.
1. My parents never let us trick or treat and
2. Because I'm a big fat chicken.
But as I've gotten older, I've grown to really appreciate this holiday. Especially since it involves candy (yum) and dressing up.

So get out there and celebrate with your girlfriends tonight :] Be safe and don't give yourself a sugar high! Oh, and go watch this dope, iconic scene from Mean Girls. I can always count on the plastics to give me a good ole laugh :]

Blast From the Past: London Part 1

Today on the blog were going back in time, yes I'm serious. We're going back to December (peep the Taylor Swift reference) for the next few days while I relieve and share for the first time here on MGC, my trip to London.

You see, I had a blog late last year over on Wordpress before I started here on Blogger. However, that site didn't stick and the pictures never transferred. But I thought that since I had such an AMAZING time, that I would reminisce a little. So sit back, relax and enjoy this blast from the past: London part 1. This post will document one of the best things I did while in London: eat. Warning, this post will make you hungry :]

1. Mojito Madness.
2. Burgers in London were so fresh.
3. Spicy Chicken Pasta
4. Beer was food in London.
5. The best Chicken Pesto I've ever had.
6. Menu Talk.
7. Lobster Ravioli heaven. The sauce and cheese were perfection.
8. I don't remember the name of this cake. I do remember that I licked the plate.
9. & 10. The best Italian food I've ever  had in my life was in this hole in the wall a block from our hotel. The noodles were homemade, the sauce was unbelievable. I would go back to London just to eat here again.
11. Hands down THE BEST tiramisu I've ever had.
12. And of course, fish and chips. I ate this twice a week it was so good.

Best Mascara EVER!

I am having a total makeup moment today ya'll and I have GOT to share with you my favorite mascara EVER! It's by Clinique, and its called the High Impact Mascara.

I first started using this product about a year ago and FELL IN LOVE, but once I ran out I never got around to buying a new one, because I'm a crazy person. Well this weekend I decided it was time to reunite with my long lost lover.

Oh. My. Wonderful. As someone who has goofy short, tightly curled lashes, this bad boy is a godsend.  It lengths and widens my lashes leaving them looking so full and lady like. So run, don't walk, to your nearest Cliniwue counter and invest in this little tube of heaven. I promise you won't regret it.

Better Late Than Never....September BOTM

I literally feel like time is flying. So fast in fact that it was already the middle of October by the time I realized I never posted a September Blogger of the Month. Forgive me. Luckily for ya'll this interview will be so worth the wait.

Meet India, the girl behind "The Redd Blogger". I discovered her site serendipitously and instantly  fell in love with her drive and her spirit; yes India's personality comes through every post! She's a fellow Beyonce lover like me, and so many of you, plus her portfolio and accomplishments are to be admired. I hope you'll enjoy her interview as much as I did.

Happy Monday :]

Where are you from and where do you live now?  I was born and raised in South Carolina! I went to college 45 mins away but moved back to my hometown after graduation. I am planning to move soon!

What inspired you to start The Redd Blogger and how long have you been writing?  I have been writing since I COULD write! I've always loved to write, whether it was creative writing, articles, or writing in my journal. I've been blogging since 2010, but started fresh with TheReddBlogger.com in November 2013.

How would you describe your blog to someone who hasn’t visited your site before?  I would say TheReddBlogger is written by the southern girl who's part introverted and part loud (if there is such a thing!) My site is quirky and inspirational! Think of it as my positive corner of the internet.

I learned that you recently quite your job to start blogging and writing full time! You're a brave soul! What prompted that decision and how is it going so far?   I've been learning a lot about myself after I graduated college, and I've been realizing more and more the type of career I'm supposed to have. Even though I went to school for journalism, I'm not sure that's where my heart is. I realized this one day while at work, and told myself that I was going to take the leap of faith and God was going to take care of the rest! It's going great so far! It's definitely challenging but I don't regret my decision at all.

I love your natural hair (I'm 4 months post big chop myself)! What are some of your favorite beauty products?  Thank you! I'm a sucker for a good conditioner, it can make or break your hairstyle! I love Carol's Daughter's deep conditioners.. they're some of the best! For styling my hair, I ALWAYS recommend Bel Nouvo's CoCo Castor Pudding. It leaves my hair shiny and super soft!

What’s been your most rewarding moment as a blogger?  So far, I'd have to say being awarded the Woman of the Quarter Award by Peek-A-Boo Pretty Girl, a non-profit organization in my area. It was really great because I love what they stand for, and they saw me fit to represent their organization because of my blog!

I recently started doing some freelance social media/PR work. Do you have any tips for girls like me who are trying to get their feet wet working independently?  Yes! Pitch, pitch, pitch. Pitch articles to all of the publications you read. Also, write for free sometimes. It may seem like a pain, but it's a great way to collect writing samples. Start a blog if you don't already have one, and guest post for other blogs! Networking is also key!

Describe a time of gorgeous chaos in your own life?  That would be.. right now! This is definitely gorgeous chaos. Gorgeous because I'm working towards the career that my heart wants and chaos because, well, no one said this would be easy!

If you could interview anyone, who would it be and why?  J.K. Rowling. She wrote a fictional series that was read worldwide and I love that. I love to get people reading and want to write a fictional novel one day.

Now that fall is upon us and winter is right around the corner, whats your dream vacation destination?  Omg, definitely Paris! I've been having Wanderlust for Paris for months. It seems so beautiful and carefree. But, somewhere a little more feasible right now would be Charleston! I love the food and the architecture there.

Golden Girl

If you can't already tell from looking around my site, I am obsessed with GOLD; especially if it sparkles. So today I decided to round up some of my favorite golden things, from Pinterest of course, and share them here on the blog. Hope you enjoy.

1. I love sippin fancy. These gold straws would make a great bar cart addition.
2. I love couch pillows and this one is chic yet edgy.
3. This painting is by the AMAZING Katey McFarlan. Check out her blog HERE.
4. How perfect are these glitter gold temporary tattoos.
5. Golden pumpkins are everywhere this year. Tis the season right?
6. This Sonix "Marigold" case is right up my alley!

Just Do It

I'm taking a little cue from Nike this morning by doing something that I've been procrastinating for a while; getting serious about the gym. In order to do that I had to enlist some help. Yes friends, I got a personal trainer, and we start today at 10:30am (perhaps while you're reading this little gem).

To be honest I've wanted to do this for about a year but I let excuses get the best of me. You know the ones, "I'm too busy", "I don't have the money"....I guess I always thought I could do it by myself, get the body of my dreams I mean. And my hat definitely goes off to the ones that can achieve their results that way. I guess I finally realized that I can push myself hard everywhere but in the gym. So I get mediocre results and my true confidence would lack.

But not anymore ya'll. Today is the first step and I couldn't be more excited. I'll be sure to keep ya'll updated on my progress. Eeek!

I also want to take this time to share something crazy that happened yesterday. This little blog of mine had 1,000+ views yesterday. Ahhhh how crazy is that?! Thanks so much for all your support :] Let's make this week a great one!

Coffee Talk with Keurig

Since it's Friday and I know everyone is itching to get their weekends started (5:00 where art thou), I thought I would keep it short and sweet for ya'll. I want a Keurig. Like, tomorrow.

This obsession started last weekend, while I was falling in love with bourbon and the bluegrass, I also fell in love with my friend Drew's Keurig maker. This thing is awesome! I know. I know. I'm probably hopping on board this train late so please excuse my excitement, but this product just seems like a necessity in my life. Especially when I consume Starbucks like its my 3rd part time job.

I just wanted to let ya'll know that this was on my radar, to see if anyone else had made the investment. Can I please pick your brain? How do you like it? I'm a sucker for product research so while I'm conducting my own, I knew that you ladies would give me the 411.

Thanks in advance! Have an awesome weekend!

Pumpkin Ice Cream Snicker-doodle Sandwiches

I love dessert, and if it weren't for my waistline I would eat it after ever meal. Now that fall is upon us, I've been looking up different recipes that involve pumpkins; tis the season after all, and you wouldn't believe the things that I've found. Pumpkin pies, pumpkin cupcakes, pumpkin ice cream snicker-doodle sandwiches. Yup. You read that correctly. Pumpkin Ice Cream Snicker-doodle Sandwiches.

I ran across this delicious concoction via Cupcakes and Cashmere, and its actually the result of a marriage between two different recipes; that Emily is a genius I tell ya! To make it, you'll need Sue Lau's recipe for homemade pumpkin ice cream and Cooks Illustrated's recipe for homemade snicker-doodles. Perfection!

I plan on trying this one ASAP, and you should too! What are some of your favorite fall recipes?

Brunch + Distilleries

Out of all the events that took place over the weekend, these two were the most relaxed and I was so thankful to kinda sit back and watch them unfold. Guests were invited for brunch at both Alltech Brewery and Woodford Reserve Distillery followed by tours of both facilities.

I will say that I was a bit biased on this day because while I don't know much about bourbon, I do know that Woodford Reserve is the bees knees for my taste buds; and was excited to actually tour the grounds where its made and bottled. Plus the sun finally came out to play after several days of rain so it turned into a beautiful afternoon. Enjoy!

The Main Event

Saturday was definitely the longest work day of the weekend but so worth it. The fun began with several Bourbon Seminar Series from the best and brightest in the industry. Once the sun went down it was time for the VIP and Main Events; both of which took place at the gorgeous Fasig-Tipton here in Lexington.

Food from local restaurants and caterers made the night all the more special. We love bringing together people from different walks of life who love Kentucky's native spirit. It sure does make for a good party!
