Fringe With Benefits

Now that spring is finally upon us, I am in a mad dash to replace my coats for cardigans and lighten up my wardrobe to prepare for the months ahead. And with lots of trends gaining momentum this time of year, I want to make sure I add a few solid pieces to my closet that stay true to how fashion is evolving but also reflect my personal style.

Right now I’m obsessed with fringe, so today I rounded up some of my favorite pieces for you! I know the idea can seem a bit overwhelming, but this trend is super easy to throw into the mix of your spring wardrobe.

I always start off with statement accessories like heels or a handbag; they will add that pop of texture without completely taking over your outfit. But keep in mind that fringe looks amazing on larger items as well, so when you’re ready to take that plunge you’re going to look amazing!

Check out my roundup and then let me know what trend you’re coveting this spring!

Spring is upon us and not a moment too soon! After all, that snow/freeze/melt/repeat thing was getting a little old and I was tired of wearing pants. Yes, I said it. I hate pants.

*insert sundress here*

This oldie but goodie is from a store that I'm basically obsessed with called Francesca's. I promise you its impossible to walk in without falling in love and nine times out of ten I leave with a bag in my hands. I think what I love most about Francesca's is the quality and uniqueness of their pieces. I don't know how they do it but those folks get it right every single time!

Because this print is pretty busy on its own, I kept it simple with styling. Just a pair of flats, my signature Gemini necklace and a cardigan just in case.

This specific dress is long gone but I've linked some of my favorite Francesca's Dresses bellow. Happy Pretty Wednesday.

My Weekend in Pictures

The weather was beautiful (for the most part) this weekend and after weeks of snow I'll take this sunny 52 degrees.

 Denim + Dots

I am so obsessed with Lush! I can't walk in without buying something. This trip I left with a "twilight" and a "sex bomb"

Anthropologie had a 15% off sale so of course I had to go show my support. Plus they had this cute dessert display set up. Macaroons are the way to my heart.

This image sums up my weekend. I've been in love with the kimono trend for spring so I had to pickup one in addition to the copy of the newest People StyleWatch.

I Hate Cover Letters

I know that hate is a very strong word so I try not to use it often. But seriously, cover letters, I hate them. With a burning passion. I understand that they're completely necessary for the job process, but every time I sit down to write one I feel stifled creatively. I wreck my brain for days trying to think of ways to effectively get someone's attention, sound professional yet creative, witty yet respectful blah blah blah...when honestly, I think that this blog speaks louder than any cover letter I will ever write.

But since we're friends, I cant just end this post with "I hate cover letters, peace out". So I'm going to try and be helpful.

Over the past few months I've written both good and bad cover letters and I thought it would be nice to share some of the things that I've learned along the way.

 1. Take your time.
Please don't wait until the application deadline to try and write your cover letter. I can't tell you how many times this has blown up in my face. Give yourself plenty of time to write, change your mind, and rewrite!

2. Find your voice.
Just like every blogger has their own voice, a signature way of speaking, you have to find that when you're writing cover letters too. HR Managers probably receive hundreds of applicants for the same job so you have to stand out among the crowd.

3. It not all about you
I mean, technically it is because your'e trying to sell someone on your work ethic and skill set, but a company also wants to know what you can do for them. How can you bring something different to their team? So break away from the "I" statements and drop a line about them.

4. Proof read
I can't tell you how many times I've found the most obvious mistakes by simply reading over my writing two or three times. I've also sent out cover letters and then caught mistakes 5 minutes later. Please don't do that. It's probably common knowledge to include this tip, but I had to say it anyways

5. Have someone else proof read
There's a reason teachers did those "paper swaps" back in middle and high school. Sometimes having a fresh, unbiased set of eyes makes all the difference.

University of Kentucky

March Madness is a time of excitement/nervousness for a lot of students and fans all across the country. But I promise you haven't fully experienced March Madness until you've experienced March Madness University of Kentucky style. It's a completely different ball game ya'll.

So this year, my first NCAA season as a graduate, I wanted to bring a little UK spirit to Pretty Wednesday in honor of the tournament starting this week. I adore this super soft t-shirt from High Street Fly in Lexington. They have so many UK/Kentucky/Bourbon related items so if you're local you've got to check them out! And of course, you can't celebrate basketball in the bluegrass without some Ale 8. It's kind of a rule.

I wanted to keep this outfit kind of casual with the denim and tassel boots (I am all about this tassel trend for spring, so stay tuned for a post on that). Plus I seriously splurged on this clutch by Clare V (totally worth it) and since leopard is a neutral in my book I thought it would go perfect with this combination. And it did.

I'd love to hear about your go to game day attire! What team are you rooting for?

Spring Break Withdrawals

I am going through some serious spring break withdrawals ya'll. This time last year I was in sunny Miami and this year I'm at home working my days away. What a difference a year and a college degree makes.

So to help ease the sadness, I wanted to share some of my favorite shots from "the last spring break".  I had a ball. I saw Trey Songz on the beach, drank $15 cocktails and strolled up and down south beach day after sunny day with some of my closest friends. I wouldn't trade those memories for anything, but now I'm ready to create new ones. Adult vacations here I come! All you recent grads feel my pain/excitement.

To everyone else preparing to jet set off to someplace fabulous, cherish these times while they last. I'd love to hear about your trips and adventures! Feel free to comment below :]
Happy Monday!

Denim + Flannel

Here it is folks. The last Louisville snow sighting of the season, at least I really really really hope it is. To commemorate I decided to throw on my new favorite high waisted denim and this flannel shirt I discovered at a local flee market.

Now, I'm usually not a flannel girl. At all. But I love how the shirt adds a pop of color to this neutral look. And even though its darker, I know I can easily transition it into my brain I'm dreaming of sunny skies and a crop top instead of this long sleeve shirt, sandals instead of the boots, you get my drift? Until my dreams are reality though this combination is perfect for running errands and bar hopping with friends.

Lay the Foundation

Alright ya'll I need some help. I'm almost all out of my MAC Powder Foundation and before I jump on a repeat purchase, I've kinda been toying around with the idea of switching to liquid (foundation); mostly because Ive heard it gives a better coverage. Mind you I've been a powder gal since I started wearing makeup, so I'm a little nervous about trying something completely different for everyday.
But I figured you gorgeous ladies could help me out :]

I peaked around Sephora and educated myself on a few of my brand options but I would love to hear from you! Do you wear liquid, powder or both? Which brands are your favorite?
Do you prefer one or the other depending on what your doing that day?
Basically I want to know it all. Spear no detail!

I can't wait to hear from you! I've actually made quite a few new beauty purchases recently, the one I'm most excited about is my Clarisonic, so be on the lookout for that review soon! Happy Monday!

White Chicken Chili

Whelp ya'll, we're snowed in here in Kentucky. I went to bed hearing the sounds of rain and woke up to 12 inches of snow. Yippie. So since I'm stuck in my pajamas all day, I wanted to share one of my favorite recipes with you for White Chicken Chili. In fact, I'm eating a large bowl as I write this!

Not only is this recipe super easy, but its perfect for days when you want a good, hearty meal that's going to last a few days. So lets get started!

1 Rotisserie Chicken
1 can of Cannellini White Kidney Beans
1 package of McCormick's White Chicken Chili seasoning
1 tbsp. oil
1 cup of water
White rice (optional; helps if spicy)

Toppings (optional)
shredded cheese
sour cream

Step One: We traditionally use a cooked rotisserie chicken from Walmart so our step one involves combining the chicken, seasoning mix, water and beans into a large pot. If you're cooking your own chicken that would be your step one.
Step Two: Bring ingredients to a boil then cover and simmer for apron. 10-15 minutes. Stir as needed. Step Three: Combine chili mix, white rice (optional) in a bowl. Add toppings if you like then enjoy!

This is by far one of my favorite winter recipes! What do you like to curl up with when it gets cold?
